Today is the 26th anniversary of the huge eruption of Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980. My family lived in Kelso, Washington at the time and could see the eruption from our front porch (see picture). Our town was covered in ash shortly thereafter, and we were forced to evacuate to higher ground due to a threat of flooding. Pretty fun stuff for a 7-year-old, but pretty traumatic for those who lost loves ones and property. We moved the hell away from the evil volcano god shortly thereafter.
